The Waites of Gloucester are modelled on the band of musicians run by the City of Gloucester in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The Waites will bring a huge variety of instruments, including recorders, flutes, gemshorns, curtals, shawm, three different sets of bagpipes, crumhorns, cornamuse, sordunes, a Mary Rose pipe, and a rebec. Their programme is a mix of folk and traditional, where it can be very difficult to give an exact date of origin, with sixteenth/seventeenth century 'literate' music, some of it in polyphony. The music will range over English, German, Flemish, Italian, and Spanish pieces. They will bring a programme of seasonal music - with some to sing as well - to close the Third Thursday series for 2021.
